Ideation for a Fully Automated technology-driven multistorey car parking experience without any human intervention with a mobile application.

In India Buying a car is the 2nd most expensive dream for people. We choose personal vehicles over public transport for the better comfort & pride in society. But parking a car or searching for a parking area with safety & security or waiting for a parking slot spoils all the comforts.

“But I find a scope to solve the problem via a mobile app by creating automated car parking without any human intervention”

As per the reports, India is developing at a very rapid speed today resulting in great urban expansion. It has some of the world’s most populous metropolitan areas like New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, or any tourist place in the city New Delhi, Jaipur, Panjab, Agra, Himachal, Uttrakhand, or many different parts of the country.

With the continuous expansion of these cities, the problem of parking spaces is also increasing. The problem is very simple- the increase in the number of cars is indirectly proportional to the available parking areas.

The increased number of cars on the road does not match with the parking areas that cities hold.

What are the side effects of it?

Some of the major reasons for parking problems faced by Indian metropolises today are:

  1. Improper tariff structure
  2. On-Street vs. Off-Street Parking
  3. Cruising
  4. Parking in residential areas
  5. Parking on special occasions
  6. Increased cars but no space

Let’s Talk about car lovers & their empathy

Delhi NCR is like the city of the car. These are the cities in the list of highest car sales in FY2021.

Most of the car owner who lives in a city like New Delhi and travels to the Gurgaon office in his own car every day. or they always travel outside from Delhi for weekend trips or some time-long rides at tourist places.

Frustration moments: They enjoy the ride on the way but, most of the time unhappy with the parking situation at tourist places or inside the city.

They feel: Parking a car in a crowded place or unorganized & overcrowded paid/unpaid parking areas, shopping areas, or roadside with the risk of the vehicle tow is the biggest challenge for them.

They Want: Solution! Solution! Solution! Move the finger for parking, not a car

What are the Possible Solutions, Market & business opportunities?

In India, a car owner’s anxiety doesn’t end in finding a parking spot. Here, 30% of traffic jams happen solely because of parking issues.

It isn’t possible to reduce the number of cars on the road or practically possible to reframe the existing parking areas in these cities.

But what could be done is we can digitalize the parking spaces making them easily available for the people.

A Fully Automated technology-driven multistorey car parking without any human intervention Can solve and fulfil the requirement of the public/user.

  1. Move the finger for parking, not a car
  2. Safe & Secure place to park
  3. Pre-booking online payments for transparency
  4. Able to manage the customers if they are overcrowded at a time
  5. Expandable operation on high demand
  6. Personalizing app experience

My thoughts & proposal of design: An effective technology-based solution must be employed to optimize the use of available spaces. Using sensors and software, smart parking solutions can provide both parking operators and drivers with a real-time map of available spaces.

A few key points must be implemented to add value:

  1. Discovery: On a fingertip finding a parking place in busy & overcrowded areas
  2. Decision: To book a slot or park here based on facilities & securities
  3. Booking: Simple & easy steps to the booking process without any unnecessary formalities.

Design

Closely understanding the problem, interviewed with the user, empathize & feel the pain & need. Research & published articles help me to articulate and come up with MVP ideas for the problem as a solution here that I believe helps users to solve the problem in a unique way of technology.

  1. Discovery: Whenever you need or open the app, a geolocation/GPS-based application will help to collect all nearby parking areas on your fingertip listed by the system.

Screen 1:

A. Home page with car GPS location and nearby parking slot abilities based on distance.

B. Type of the vehicle easy selection mode with bottom tray accessibility

A. Parking slot information based on distance & slot availability can browse and book easily here.

B. Every Parking area shows a distance to reach the destination back by walking distance information. that help users to make quick decisions to park in the nearest parking area.

C. Parking Price & slot based on the selected date, time, and duration here.

Bottom Navigation & IA :

  1. Discover: Tap to search
  2. My Ticket: Once booking the slot, parking ticket/coupons will appear here
  3. Service: To make the app more useful & multipurpose, users can book extra services based on availabilities like Car wash, Air Check & filling.
  4. Updates: As a notification center, users will notify the slot booking information related updates, quick access of extension on slot booking time, etc.
  5. Profile: Car information to book the parking slot, Personalise information like Adding multiple Vehicles to park at the same time, tracking all the transactions & booking history, Tracking Parking hours, My favorite Parking place/slot, pre-booking, Remote access of monitoring vehicles

Usability: Application is simply based & similarly work like google map that helps all the age group and easy to use.

  • search bar with GPS accessibility help user to identify the actual location
  • Based on location application show multiple parking areas filters on distance, number o slot availabilities, and security future at the place.

2. Decision: Flexibility of timing & availability of the multiple parking areas based on Proper tariff parking plan information trigger users to make a quick decision here.

3. Booking: Easy & simple steps, Transparency & digital payment, security future, clear & understanding information force users to make booking easy.

Use -case: Browse the nearest or suitable parking area based on your need> tap on the booking CTA> Land on the Parking detail page> add a vehicle in nit already added> Select Date & time > review the detail and price break-up>apply the code if available> Add payment mode information/or choose another mode> & tap on the CTA for booking the slot.

Screen 5:

A. After booking the slot successfully user will receive a parking token for entry and park his car on a tray. The tray will move and park the car in a multistory parking system.

B. After parking the car user will get a new exit parking ticket for receiving his/her car after the end of the booking slot.

C. Token has all the information about the car, please time & duration of the booking.

D. After End of the booking a time slot, the user needs to show the exit ticket on the application to the system to receive the car back on the tray.

A. User can opt to the Pay late option to continue to book the slot & he needs to pay the amount and receive an exit pass bar code to complete the process.

A. Once complete the process by showing the bar code to the system the process will start to get the car in the bottom/ground tray.

Personalization: Adding multiple Vehicles to park at the same time, tracking all the transactions & booking history, Tracking Parking hours, My favourite Parking place/slot, pre-booking, Remote access of monitoring vehicles for securities purposes is the USP of the app.
